Over 6 days between 23rd October to 6th November 2009 I carried out a training session for Dakar tailors at the Micamisa workshop. Local designer and tailor Babacar Sow also took part in the training and showed the tailors how to sew some of his products on the last two days. The Micamisa (a Senegalese company, partner of the Yakaar Niani Wulli Federation) tailors will ensure production of the Yakaar Niani Wulli organic fair trade cotton textile products (bags, cushion covers, caps, toys etc) for a certain period, before the tailors in the cotton-producing village of Koussanar acquire the level of skill needed to produce quality finished products. The session was very successful as the tailors managed to learn how to sew all the products in the collection, with very few mistakes. We were lucky to have some horizontally-striped hand-woven cloth as well as the ecru and indigo used for prototypes. The success of the training means that the Yakaar Niani Wulli online shop is functional and will be able to fulfill orders placed by individuals all over the world (http://ynw.jarinio.sn).
